ASHOKA THE GREAT (THE UNTOLD SAGA)

The sudden demise of Mr.O.P.Ralhan, in 1999, left one of his most cherished projects unfulfilled; that, of the life and times of Emperor Ashoka the Great, which was his vision to capture on film.

His daughter Mrs.Rupalli P.Shah, propreitor of Ralhan Productions says“ I have fond memories of his passion for this project. The research, dedication and hard work that went into the preparation of this historic script began in 1957 and was completed by 1990. The laying of the foundation stone by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, along with more than a hundred Buddhist Monks, will always remain an unforgettable memory. But, sadly, ‘Ashoka’ remains an unfulfilled dream of my father. It is my strongest desire to see his dream fulfilled.”

The script for “AshokaThe Great” has been developed after years of research by eminent historians from different parts of the world and facts gathered from libraries and multiple archives. The scale and magnitude of the research done, only lends credence to the accuracy and authenticity of the script on the life of Emperor Ashoka.

This great Indian Emperor’s story is compared to the life of the Greek hero Alexander the Great. Ashoka’s conversion to a Buddhist monk, after the eight year war against Kalinga, only proves that in every leader, there is a great teacher and ruler. Emperor Ashoka’s message of truth and peace for humanity has inspired many a generation and holds a revered place in Indian history books, for it has indeed shaped the very history of India.

Mr. O. P. Ralhan’s greatest script is yet to be discovered. It needs support, creativity and a canvas to show. The project has an incredible, spectacular and integral storyline that could inspire great motion picture / TV production companies to create a magnum opus which would be relevant to the contemporary world and finally lay at rest, the unfulfilled dream of Mr.O.P.Ralhan, in whose honour the film will be made.
